First Trimester Screen Results

I got the results of my First Trimester Screen this morning, and they were negative. This screen only tests the risk of Downs Syndrome and Trisomy 18, but the risk has gone down from about 1:80 (based on my age alone) to 1:410. We'll have additional screening for Spina Bifida and other neural tube defects, but really the most conclusive test will be the 20 week ultrasound (unless we decide to do an amniocentesis). That's when they can really tell what the baby looks like and if there are any physical markers of chromosomal abnormalities. We're happy right now and hoping all the other tests come back as good as this one!

Can't wait for the 20 week U/S. Is that the one where you can tell if it's a boy or girl? I think so. Maybe then we can give Emby a real name. So happy for you guys.
Love,
Mommasita

Haha Mommasita! The name of this baby will be kept secret until it's birth! We should be able to tell the sex at the 20 week ultrasound as long as the baby cooperates.
